Current update regarding traveling to Egypt from Botswana, Eswathini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Kindly note that some precautionary measures have been introduced to assist travelers arriving in Egypt from the aforementioned seven countries, whether in transit or as a final destination. These precautionary measures are in response to the discovery of a new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, and shall be reviewed constantly to reflect developments in this regard:

If you currently wish to travel to Egypt, you will be asked to kindly sign a consent form at the Embassy, acknowledging the following:

Upon arrival at the port of Entry in Cairo, an obligatory rapid Covid-19 test shall be performed. If your test result is positive, you will be obliged to board the outbound return flight of the same plane upon which you arrived. However, should you test negative, a mandatory self-quarantine of 7 days shall be imposed, followed by a mandatory PCR test at the end of the quarantine.

All Travelers who wish to have their visas issued are hereby instructed to submit with their application, proof of a secure outbound ticket from South Africa to Egypt.

The Embassy shall not be held liable for any costs instigated by the mandatory quarantine or prolonged stays due to possible unavailability of return flights to South Africa.
