Estonia to Permit Entry for Citizens of Baltic States and Finland, Without Quarantine

Authorities in Estonia have announced that citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Finland will no longer need to comply with quarantine rules, upon their arrival, if they present a negative result of the Coronavirus test, not older than 48 hours, Estonia’s government has announced.

The decision will be effective, starting from Monday, October 19. However, the country’s recommendation to avoid unnecessary travel continues to be valid, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“By the decision of the government, we want to ensure that Estonia maintains the essential normal life and the opportunity to travel in case of unavoidable need. In the spring, the expanded Baltic cooperation proved to be very good, and we still want to harmonize the regional approach, which would help our countries and people to cope more smoothly with the COVID-19 international pandemic,” Estonia’s Minister of Social Affairs, Tanel Kiik said.

In this regard, Estonia’s Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu considers essential to revive the cooperation in the region.

“Today, each of the Baltic states and Finland has a separate model of how countries mutually establish quarantines. As a result, life in the region is fragmented, and it is in Estonia’s interest for cooperation between our countries to resume,” Minister Reinsalu stressed.

On September 28, Estonia announced that it removed quarantine rules for internationals arriving in the country from Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, as an effort to facilitate the movement between these three countries.

In September, Estonia also updated entry rules for internationals who work or study in the country. The country’s government revealed the decision.

In this regard, the Minister of the Interior Mart Helme emphasized that the draft amendments were introduced to the Aliens Act while Estonia’s government will send the draft to the parliament – Riigikogu – for further processing.

Up to this point, the country has registered a total of 4,078 cases of COVID-19 infections, while 68 persons have died.

From the Coronavirus pandemic, more than 3,200 persons have been recovered in Estonia, while there are 799 active cases, according to the statistics published by Worldometers.com.
